ANDRETTI EXTENDS LEAD AS REUTEMANN TRIUMPHS FROM VILLENEUVE’S MENTAL LAPSE IN DRAMATIC LBGP

The XXI Toyota Grand Prix of the United States would “Do it in the streets” for the third time around the narrow, temporary street circuit in Long Beach, CA. Heading into the weekend, American Mario Andretti was leading by one point over his teammate, Sweden’s Ronnie Peterson. Qualifying saw the Ferraris of Argentina’s Carlos Reutemann and French-Canadian Gilles Villeneuve on the front row, with Australian Niki Lauda in a Brabham and American Mario Andretti in the revolutionary Lotus winged car.

Villeneuve would jump off the line and take the lead from his teammate, with Englishman John Watson's Brabham surging past both his teammate Lauda and Reutemann to take second. However, this was not to last, as Watson would retire early due to mechanical gremlins. The young French-Canadian drove a masterful race, leading for 40 laps, but a lapse in concentration saw him collide with a backmarker, ending his day.

His teammate would inherit the lead, and even a late spin could not snatch victory from the Argentine, as a slow puncture had the year before. Andretti would bring the winged car home in second, extending his lead in the World Drivers’ standings. Andretti would ultimately clinch his only F1 title, and the second for an American, but not in the way he wanted, as the death of his closest rival and teammate Ronnie Peterson, 10 races later at Monza, marred his victory.

The Hat is an adjustable YP Classic 100% cotton, flat billed, 5-panel Baseball Cap that will accept a curve. The woven patch is produced with a High Density Damask Weave resulting in HD lettering and graphics.

Damask Woven Patch

To create patches capable of capturing the high definition of print material, Damask woven patches were chosen over other methods because they are high-quality, durable fabric patches. This technique produces tight, smooth, and finely detailed pattern fabric, often with a luxurious feel. “Damask” refers to the process developed in early medieval Byzantium, specifically in Damascus, but today, these patches are produced on computerized Jacquard looms. This weave is advantageous as it allows designs to be woven directly into the fabric using very fine thread rather than just

    Long Beach Grand Prix Hat

This hat has a great retro look about it. Very cool throwback feel. Hat fits very well, only nitpick would be for actual bucket of hat to be a little deeper. But this is easily one of my favorite hats.
