NELSON PIQUET TRIUMPHS AT HISTORIC 1986 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX, SECURES FIRST F1 VICTORY BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN

The undulating terrain of the Gödöllő Hills, just outside the Hungarian capital Budapest, was the site of the1st Hungarian Grand Prix, or II POP 84 Magyar Nagydíj, held at the newly constructed Hungaroring. It was billed as the “first race behind the Iron Curtain.” Qualifying saw a pair of Brazilians on the front row, with Ayrton Senna in a Lotus-Renault on pole and Nelson Piquet in a Canon/Williams-Honda alongside him. Frenchman Alain Prost in a McLaren-Honda and title leader Nigel Mansell (Canon/Williams-Honda) lined up behind.

Race day attracted the largest ever crowd for an F1 race at the time (~200K). Senna led from the start, with Mansell moving into 2nd. An intense opening lap saw Piquet overtake Mansell for 2nd, followed by Prost for 3rd. Piquet caught and passed his compatriot for the lead, while Prost retired due to electrical gremlins. Senna briefly regained the lead while Piquet pitted. This would not last long, as Piquet laid down a stunning move around the outside at the first corner for the lead and would not relinquish it, ensuring that the Brazilian claimed the first victory for F1 inside the Soviet Union.

Damask Woven Patch

To create patches capable of capturing the high definition of print material, Damask woven patches were chosen over other methods because they are high-quality, durable fabric patches. This technique produces tight, smooth, and finely detailed pattern fabric, often with a luxurious feel. “Damask” refers to the process developed in early medieval Byzantium, specifically in Damascus, but today, these patches are produced on computerized Jacquard looms. This weave is advantageous as it allows designs to be woven directly into the fabric using very fine thread rather than just
