Endurance, American Style – The 1981 IMSA GT Championship

The 1981 IMSA GT Championship was a turning point in American sports car racing—where privateer grit met turbocharged power in a season defined by speed, strategy, and stamina. Porsche’s mighty 935 reigned supreme, not just in performance but in presence, driven by fearless independents like Bob Garretson, who clinched the IMSA title and the FIA World Endurance crown in the same season.

The grid was a showcase of variety and innovation: BMWs, Mazdas, Corvettes, and Camaros all carved out their own battles across the GTP, GTO, and GTU classes. From Daytona’s high banks to the twisty corners of Sears Point, every race was a test of durability and daring.

1981 would mark the end of an era—just before IMSA pivoted toward purpose-built prototypes. But in that final season of production-based thunder, the series delivered pure, unfiltered endurance racing, American style.

Our Designs are directly printed onto on this classic Bella-Canvas crew neck, 3/4 length baseball tee in an “On-Demand“ basis to reduce unnessesary waste.  The 50/50 cotton/poly-blend results in a soft and lightweight feel from day-1.

Care Instructions: Machine wash and tumble dry on low.
